Jolene K. Shkooratoff

Jolene currently works primarily in Family Law. As a family lawyer Jolene puts not only her expertise into her work but also recognizes the emotional nature of her client’s individual matters. Her goal is to reach peaceful resolutions but she also has significant experience as a litigator in both Provincial and Supreme Court. She also works in criminal, civil, mental health law and legal aid matters on a case by case basis.

Jolene was born and raised in Nelson, BC. She relocated to the lower mainland to pursue her legal career. She obtained her Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) at Simon Fraser University in 2000. After taking some time for international travel, she returned to school in Halifax, NS where she obtained her law degree (LLB) from Dalhousie University in 2005. Upon returning to the Kootenays Jolene worked at Skogstad Law Office (as it was then) beginning in 2005.

Jolene was called to the Bar in 2007 and has since practiced primarily in Nelson.

While Jolene was in school in Halifax she worked at the Dalhousie Legal Aid Clinic providing pro bono legal aid to the low income. She also worked at the Nova Scotia Family Courts as a judge’s assistant. She was a member of the Dalhousie Health Law Institute and received a Health Law and Policy Specialization certificate.

Jolene is a member of the Canadian Bar Association, the Kootenay Bar Association, the Trial Lawyers Association and her local Chamber of Commerce.

Jolene is an active member of the community and living in the Kootenays provides her with an excellent outlet for her love of the outdoors. She has continued interests in travel, reading, music and is an avid hockey fan.
